Fatigue, depressed young man with liver diseases turned to Chinese medicine and got cured of Hepatitis B

The male patient of this case was a young American born Chinese. He was 36 years old when he first came for consultation. He was a Hepatitis B carrier as his mother also had the disease. When I first saw him, he was extremely tired, his eyes were lifeless, his complexion was green-yellow and his face was dull. Physical examination in the previous year found problems with his liver function, with a number of enzyme indicators elevated, only his alpha- fetoprotein (AFP) was normal. The report also indicated he had fatty liver and early signs of cirrhosis, chronic and long-term liver diseases. The patient said he had taken a variety of western medicines and had also visited a Chinese medicine practitioner at Baptist Hospital, but his conditions had not improved. He felt fatigue and was completely listless in his daily work.

According to my experience in treating liver cancer, western medicine can only lower liver enzyme indicators, but cannot completely remove liver toxins. I told the patient that to completely cure his diseases, the bad cells and toxins in his liver needed to be discharged. During the treatment, liver toxins, stagnant blood, fat and other substances would be discharged in his urine. His urine would even turn black after oxidation. These were all normal reactions. I explained to the patient in detail my unique diagnosis and treatment approach of “monitoring disease through urine observation”.

The patient also stated that he had been suffering from asthma since he was ten years old which, until now, had not yet been cured. His eyes were usually dry and uncomfortable, and his shoulders and neck were stiff. He was unable to sleep well so he often felt tired. He had poor appetite and he had cold hands and feet. I explained to him that people with poor liver function would for sure have weak hearts, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain that led to cold hands and feet as well as difficulties falling asleep and sleeping. The initial diagnosis was that the patient was in the early stage of liver cancer.

Condition improved after taking medicine

After taking medicine, his body felt slightly hot and sweaty, his hands and feet warmed up and he could sleep soundly at night. He felt a dull pain at his liver. After waking up, his shoulders and neck felt relaxed and he felt refreshed. His eyes were less dry and he was not as tired as before. His appetite did not change much. His bowel movement was normal with more belching and farting. He no longer felt bloated and tightness in his stomach. Two bottles of urine brought in for the first follow-up consultation were orange-red, with pink sediments at the bottoms, which should be necrotic cells brought out from his heart, while two other bottles were light orange. The patient had a blood test again, which showed that his liver function indicators had returned to normal. I suggested that he take another blood test after four weeks to see if his liver enzymes had exceeded the standard. If so, it indicated that the Chinese medicine was bringing out toxins.

After two weeks, his conditions continued to improve. The asthma that had bothered him for more than 20 years suddenly reduced. Sometimes it did not occur for a whole week or only once or twice, indicating improvements in his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. At the fourth follow-up visit, the dullness on his face had subsided, his complexion turned ruddy and his eyes were bright with the dryness disappeared. His vision was bright and clear, with the smoke-like thin film gone. As liver health is reflected in vision, when the liver has a problem, the eyes will see a layer of smoke-like film, blurring the vision. His sleep had improved a lot and he could sleep for six hours a day. His appetite was surprisingly good. He felt hungry all the time with belching disappeared and farting slightly reduced. He still had several times of nocturnal penile tumescence every morning, with his penis becoming firmer than before. In the urine he brought in, I began to see white fat lumps on the surface and some white cholesterol deposits, which was very good. I speculated that his cirrhosis would be improved with the continuous excretion of fat from his liver.

Four weeks later, the patient took another blood test, and the results showed that his liver enzyme index were all normal without major changes. Under normal circumstances, if a patient’s liver has problems, my medicine will bring out the toxins or necrotic cells from it, which would raise the index level. For the patient, it had been more than a month of treatment, but the index level had not gone up, indicating his liver had basically returned to normal without major problems.

Stasis constantly discharged from problematic heart

The patient’s urine was mostly orange or light orange, indicating the discharge of plenty of accumulated blood stasis from his heart. The patient’s main problem lay in his heart. His Hepatitis B problem had weakened his heart and made him often tired and weak in the past. At the fifth follow-up visit, he said that he had exercised and felt that his physical fitness had improved and was not as tired as before. This was due to the growth of new heart cells after the continuous discharge of blood stasis from his heart. In addition, based on urine observation, the inner wall tissue of his bladder was also being discharged, indicating his kidney function was enhanced. With replenished qi in the kidneys, the urine capacity of his bladder had increased, so the old wall would fall off and be replaced with new inner wall tissue.

At the eighth follow-up consultation, the urine brought in by the patient was dark brown, orange, dark green, etc., containing yellow-white cholesterol deposits, brown urate crystals and white fat on the surface. Although the patient’s liver function index had returned to normal, there was still stagnant blood, toxins and fats continuously being discharged. The patient reported that he had a brief asthma attack at night, but it stopped without the need of asthma inhaler. Afterwards, there was no more attacks. After inquiring carefully, I discovered that he often drank soy milk, which has a cold nature and not suitable for people with weak hearts and cold lungs. I asked him to stop drinking it immediately. In addition, cabbage soup and radish soup were also no good. The patient had run that week. In the past, running for five minutes would make him out of breath and he could run no further, but this time he was able to run for half an hour. He was like completely reborn, with his cardiopulmonary function enhanced and his asthma significantly reduced. I strongly believed that if he continued to take medicine, his exercising time could be further extended.

The treatment had continued for two months and everything was progressing well. However, there were occasional asthma attacks. One time the episode stopped after more than ten minutes. Later, he caught a cold. His immune system was weakened and asthma had recurred for several times which lasted for longer and longer up to one hour. After drinking two doses of medicine, the cold was gradually cleared and there was no more asthma attacks. The patient took another blood test and the results were all normal.

The patient was busy at work with frequent business trips, but he could still cope with it with ease, showing that his energy level was good. He also told me that his sexual activities had recently regained vitality, returning to the state about ten years ago and he did not feel tired afterwards. At the 22nd follow-up consultation, he said that his asthma recurred again once, which lasted for about ten minutes. I added some ingredients in his prescription to expel wind pathogenic influence which had helped a lot. But after a month, his asthma recurred more frequently, probably because the weather had turned cold with cold wind hitting Hong Kong.

Physical examination showed liver normal

The patient had a physical examination again and his liver enzyme index was normal. His Hepatitis carriage had changed from positive to negative, indicating that he no longer had Hepatitis. His Hepatitis B virogene index had dropped significantly, the risks of cirrhosis and fatty liver had also been eliminated, indicating his liver had returned to normal, which was really great news. Regarding his asthma that kept recurring during the previous two weeks, I suspected it was allergy related. I asked the patient to check whether his pillowcase was made of goose feathers. If so, his asthma might be triggered by the allergy of his respiratory tract to the feathers. Sure enough, the inner cases of his pillow and quilt were made of goose feathers. After replacing them, his asthma had never come back.

Since the Chinese medicine was still opening up his heart and expelling accumulated stasis, the patient sometimes felt tired, lacked motivation, and was unwilling to exercise. Since he often had dry coughs, which was caused by his weak heart, I suggested drinking ginseng water to replenish vitality. After one week of consumption, it really worked. His cough greatly reduced. After the patient’s business trip to New York, possibly due to the cold weather, his asthma recurred.

At the 32nd follow-up visit, the patient brought me his liver function test report. Hepatitis B antigen had become negative, instead of at border line as before. His condition took another leap forward with the self generation of antibodies. Other liver enzyme indices remained normal and Hepatitis B virogene index had also dropped sharply from tens of millions to few hundreds. Basically, his liver diseases had been cured with his heart being the only problem outstanding. In just nine months of treatment, he had changed from a listless Hepatitis B patient to a vigorous young man. My “Chinese Medicine Brain Theory” was once again proven. The patient was also really happy about the improvements in his health.

Due to cold weather, frequent business trips and unsuitable food consumption, his asthma recurred frequently and he felt tired. Later, he was infected by his son with flu. He had a mild fever and became better after taking medicine. At the 36th consultation, the patient said that he had stomach gas and heartburn. I thought it was caused by his liver’s invasion of his spleen and stomach, so I asked him to drink coke. It really worked, the compressed carbon dioxide immediately brought out the gas in his stomach and all symptoms disappeared. As his asthma persisted, the patient drank ginseng tea again to strengthen his heart. His cough had significantly reduced and his asthma had also improved. By the 40th follow-up visit, the patient had no cough at all, showing that ginseng tea was of great help to him. The patient said he suspected there was mold behind the wallpaper in his room which caused his allergy and asthma.

At the forty-sixth follow-up visit, the patient brought his latest physical examination report to me. First of all, the liver enzyme index was all normal. Hepatitis B antigen was negative, while the antibody index was at the border line, not quite normal. The Hepatitis virogene index increased from 500 the previous time to 1800, which was still within the normal range. His liver stiffness measurement was eight, which was Grade II, indicating liver fibrosis, but had not reached the stage of cirrhosis. The figure remained the same as the previous check. I analyzed and pointed out that his liver enzyme index remained normal, which was a good result. The Hepatitis B virogene index was higher than the previous time because his heart was being improved and strengthened with the medicine penetrating into small blood vessels in his liver. On two of the days, his urine was purple-red with black, indicating a lot of liver toxins were discharged. The day of blood test coincided with those days of urine collection, so the index was particularly high. If there was no more purple-red discharge in his urine, the index would drop. The liver stiffness measurement did not change because even if the fat in his liver was discharged, the fibrotic tissue would not return to normal. Since I did not have the data, I could not give a proper answer, but I suggested him taking an ultrasound test next time to check whether the fat in his liver had been removed.

Except for occasional mild asthma, the patient was all well and he stopped taking medicine soon after that. He was first diagnosed on 22 May 2009 and the treatment ended on 17 July 2010. It lasted one year and three months with a total of 56 consultations. His liver diseases were completely cured.
